Historian Sandra Miesel has written a short biography of St. Nuno Alvares Pereira, the Carmelite who was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on April 26. It is titled Portugal's Fighting Saint. A warrior and nobleman who entered a Carmelite convent after the death of his wife of 40 years, St. Nuno established a lay confraternity of Carmelites to work among the poor, which eventually became a Carmelite third order.

I also have an earlier post on the canonization.
