On this Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin, and the end of May the month of Mary, I recommend to you two short reads titled Receiving Mary and Jesus Gives Us His Mother, both by Father Marie-Dominique Philippe, O.P., founder of the Community of St. John. In "Receiving Mary," he says:
Mary is the superabundance of the mystery of the Redemption, and she allows us to grasp the fact that the Redemption, while it is indeed a mystery of satisfaction and thus of justice, is above all and more than anything else a mystery of superabundant love.
He says more on the same theme in "Jesus Gives Us His Mother," in answer to a question about the importance of Mary today:
A mother is not on the side of justice but on the side of mercy, of superabundance of love. That is, I believe, what we should understand today: that Mary is our mother in the superabundance of love.
