Pope Benedict XVI in Loreto, Italy

The Pope's visit to Loreto was yesterday and today.  Here are a few links.  I will add more to this post as articles and translations become available.

Papa Ratzinger Forum has a page with logos, news articles, and photos.  It includes Teresa Benedetta's English translations of the Pope's homilies at yesterday's vigil and today's mass, as well as his words before praying the Angelus today.  Here is an excerpt from the Holy Father's homily at yesterday's vigil:

"This human fear can hamper even the most courageous spirit, but on this night before you, at the foot of her Holy House, Mary repeats to each of you, dear young friends, the words which she herself heard the angel address to her: Have no fear! Do not be afraid! The Holy Spirit is with you and will never abandon you. Nothing is impossible to whoever trusts in God."

In his homily at today's Mass, the Pope spoke of the challenges that lie ahead for today's youth in humbly following Jesus when humility is seen as weakness in much of the world, in "the 'alternative' ways indicated by true love: a life style that is moderate and fraternal; emotional relationships that are sincere and pure; an honest commitment to study and work; a profound interest in the common good."

He mentioned the importance of taking care of the earth:

"One of the fields in which it is urgent to work is most definitely that of safeguarding creation. The new generations are responsible for the future of the planet, which shows evident signs of a development that has not always known to preserve the delicate balances of nature. Before it is too late, we must make courageous choices with a view to a strong alliance between man and the earth."

His words before praying the Angelus included this: "In order to bring God to the public square, he must first be internalized in our home, as Mary did in the Annunciation."

The Vatican page on the journey has the official translations of all the Holy Father's prayer, homily and addresses will be added to that page. The Vatican Radio page on Pastoral Visits may offer articles, short radio clips that can be played online, and possibly early Vatican translations of papal addresses during pastoral visits.  As of right now, it does not have anything posted more recently than the schedule for the visit.

Television coverage is available online from EWTN (watch live) with English and Spanish commentary, KTO (live and later in archives) with French commentary, and Vatican TV with Italian commentary.  EWTN has 2 re-broadcasts planned for today's Mass at 12:00 noon Eastern (9:00 A.M. Pacific) and 12:00 midnight Eastern (9:00 P.M. Pacific).

KTO has yesterday's vigil with the youth and moment of private prayer at the Holy House of Loreto (a broadcast that also shows portions of the youth's all-night prayer vigil, including lots of music, during the time while the Holy Father was praying inside the Holy House and afterward, with a few interruptions for broadcast difficulties).

There is a Catholic Encyclopedia article about the history and significance of the Holy House of Loreto

Amy Welborn has a terrific round-up with a map, the schedule and photos.

The official website for the visit is in Italian.

Asia News - Italy has several articles from the journey, including:

Pope: Loreto, Young People's Spiritual Capitol (about yesterday's vigil)

Pope's Prayer for Our Lady of Loreto (about the Holy Father's prayer in the Holy House and the youth's prayer vigil that lasted until morning).

Father Bossi Talks About God's Tenderness During His Days of Captivity (About Father Bossi's words during yesterday's vigil).  Here is a quote from Father Bossi's words from the Asia News article:

"I spent 40 days on the mountain. They brought me there by force, I saw frightened and poor people all around me, people who believed themselves strong with a gun in their hands. I felt compassion for them. I even tried to put myself in their shoes. I even saw God’s goodness in them, that same God who takes you by the hand and never leaves you. The God which helps you overcome your fears and asking you to be open to him."

Pope: Young People; Do Not Be Afraid to Follow the "Alternative" Route of True Love (About the Holy Father's homily at today's Mass)
