Pope Benedict XVI in Austria
Here are a few links for Pope Benedict XVI's visit to Austria, which runs from September 7 to 9. Links to translations of the papal addresses have been updated as of September 16.
The Vatican page on the journey has a program and translations of the Pope's addresses into various languages, including English.
The occasion of the journey is the
850th anniversary of the foundation of the Mariazell Basilica,
a Marian shrine near Vienna. The logo for the visit, shown here, includes the visit's
motto "Auf Christus Schauen," which is taken from the Pope's 1989 book
by the same name. That book is available in English translation under
the name To Look on Christ: Exercises in Faith, Hope and Love.
(The logo is available for download for religious purposes with some
limits on its use for prayer books and songbooks, but is copyright
protected and prohibited for use for commercial purposes.)
A schedule for each event of the trip is on the English language version of the official website for the visit.
Zenit has posted Vatican translations, including:
Benedict XVI's Greeting at the Vienna Airport
The Pope's Prayer at the Mariensaeule
Address to Austrian Politicians
Homily at the Shrine of Mariazell
Homily at Vespers at the Mariazell
Address before Praying the Angelus
Address at Heiligenkreuz Abbey
Address to Austrian Volunteers
EWTN will provide television coverage for the Pope's trip to Austria, with online broadcasts with English and Spanish commentary, broadcast live with one or two later re-broadcasts.
KTO has television coverage with French commentary. For those who are unable to watch the EWTN broadcasts either live or at the re-broadcast times, KTO's archives may be of interest even if you do not understand the French commentary. From the KTO page on the journey to Austria, click on the picture of the broadcast you want to watch online. Most are available in archives within a few hours and will remain available for at least 2 weeks. Once the archive is available online, you will see a small green button for "Regarder la Video" (meaning "Watch the Video"). You may find that, once that opens, if you click on the link "Si aucune video ne s'affiche, cliquez ici," the video will open in Real Player so that you can get a picture that fills your computer screen.
Vatican Television provides live broadcasts through Quicktime.
Vatican Radio has coverage including translations, an article about the Pope's comments on the plane and an audio report on his greeting to pilgrims.
Papa Ratzinger Forum has photos and articles.
Asia News has articles including:
In Mariazell, the pilgrim's restless heart finds Christ, the Truth
